In mid 2020 I was working on a larger project to create a new game every month. I wanted to challenge myself and my ability to take projects from start to finish.

OH&S was the third game I made for the project and I was looking to see what mechanics I could explore that wouldn't take too long to develop. I decided to work with a glass shattering script I'd made for an earlier project called Heist Game. I figured the most fun I could get out of the glass shattering would be to have the player just throw themselves as a ragdoll through the glass.

The idea came together pretty quickly and so the major focus on the project was to design a fun playground for the player to explore. I created the sections of the level by thinking about different ways the player could interact with the glass and trying to create a section that would draw the player to perform that action. For example the large scaffold encouraged the player to jump down through many layers of glass, the long stack of glass encouraged the player to sprint through instead of ragdolling and the moving crane played with the idea of standing still while the glass shatters onto you. I really wanted to feel like I'd explored everything afforded by the glass shattering mechanic.

Of all the game a month games I made this is one of the ones I'm most proud of. I started with a strong mechanic that I didn't need to develop much and so I was able to spend a lot more time working as a designer.
