Play Feeling BluePlay The Tarmac TruckPlay Two-Body ProblemAround 2019 a couple of friends of mine started doing these small game jams where we make a game in one afternoon. To make things simpler instead of working across multiple computers we just use the one computer and give each person ten minutes to add something to the project.
These projects are always a lot of fun as we can explore some really dumb gameplay that doesn't really have to be well designed as long as its fun. We always come out with games that could have never been made in any context except for this specific time. The games often reflect the day we worked on them and things that happend while we worked on them. Feeling Blue for example randomly stops as if it's a youtube video that's buffering. The internet was going extremely slow on that particular day and we were trying to listen to music but it kept buffering so we thought it would be funny to make the game do it as well.
I think these projects have really taught me about working well in a team. There's been a couple of times we haven't finished a project or enjoyed what came out of the jam and I think anytime that's happened has been because we failed to really work together. Things work best when we're always building on what the person before us has added. Often after taking my turn I'll have an idea for a direction the project could go but by the time my next turn comes around the project will be going somewhere completely different and it's always better to put my ego aside and build on what the project is instead of what I was planning for it to be.
